Concept

I’ve always been very interested in photography and using film to me is a very noble nowadays. So for this book I wanted to combine these two loves of mine. Hong Kong, and film photography and express it through my own words.

Strategy

I wasn’t sure what I was going to get when I was taking these photographs, I mainly just took walks and recorded what I saw, and how I saw it. I think a lot of people wouldn’t see Kowloon, the place I’ve lived the past three years as I do but I hoped to be able to show it through this book. I think the writing really adds to the sense of the place as a foreigner who calls this my home. 

Results

This book of course is very personal to me. I valued taking the photographs and exploring the places I already know well and others that I don’t see too often. Every stage of this book was a process. I developed and scanning my own film, put it all together and wrote about the place I’ve come to call my home. It’s turned into something that I didn’t see it becoming at the beginning but it feels right and it tells a story of my time here and hopefully can relate to others who feel like outsiders as well.
