Here’s to pattern design,

What started off as a one-time project four years ago is now something I am starting to call a hobby—below you’ll find the story of where it all began but up here will be the latest additions to the collection.

Pattern design & Book

Pattern Design, Book Design

Concept

When starting the project I had no idea where to begin with making patterns. I knew there were lots of patterns that I couldn’t appreciate and so I got to thinking about patterns that I do like and could see myself going out of the way for. I chose to make all of my patterns within this book using a single gingko leaf as the influence.

Strategy

Never having designed patterns before when I was creating them I started to see how they could be incorporated into many different things. I was playing around with how large and small they could be to make the extremeness of the leaf vs. extreme smalls to where you can’t even see it anymore.

Results

The patterns I ended up finishing to me reminded me a lot of home goods. And since I am someone who loves decorating I see how this happened so easily. So when I was making the book I decided to include a few pages to show how these patterns can be used in different spaces and on different products giving mostly the same look and feel across all channels.
